Google Profiles and increasing your SEO exposure

Google just began offering the opportunity to add a listing about yourself or your organization through a free service called “Google Profiles.” This service will place your listing at the bottom of page one of the organic (left side) search results – so this provides another source of free links from Google searches to your site as well as a page of information about you or your organization.

I’d suggest you set two profiles up…one for your Executive Director and one for your organization. Since the Google profile service includes the ability to add links to the profile page, make sure to add at least two links to each profile – one to the other profile and one to your organization’s Web site.

The service also allows you to add a photo or logo to the page which I highly recommend. The image will show up on the Google search results page further highlighting your profile.

It takes less than 10 minutes to set up, just go to http://www.google.com/profiles and have the following ready:

1. An email address (it will be used to verify your authenticity)

2. A photo or logo image (the service will help you crop the image correctly online)

3. Address, phone and so on

4. A one paragraph bio, or one paragraph intro to the organization

Please let me know about your experiences with this new service and the results you get!

John
