Making sure you control your online identity
Hello everyone,
This Thursday, February 26 I’ll be giving the “Internet Marketing for
Non-Profits” afternoon seminar again. We’ve made a few changes (yes,
we made it shorter) but I also added a few things that I thought
important for establishing and maintaining your organization’s online
identity. I thought I’d share these additional items with you since
they are important in order to make sure YOU and not someone else
control these listings at important online venues. It shouldn’t take
more than an hour or so to complete all of these registrations.
1. Establish your Google Map listing
Go to http://maps.google.com/ and search for your organization’s name
Click “Add it to Google Maps!” and enter your organization’s
information
2. Establish your Yahoo Local listing
Go to http://local.yahoo.com and search for your organization’s name
Click “Add your business to Yahoo! Local now” and enter your
organization’s information
3. Establish your MicroSoft Live Search Maps listing
Go to http://maps.live.com/ and search for your organization’s name
Click “Add or edit your business listing in the Local Listing Center”
and enter your organization’s information
There – that takes care of the major geo-locating services. Now go
register your profile for any of the social media sites where you are
not currently represented. For starters make sure you control your
profile for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and MySpace. And don’t forget
to save all the login information including passwords in an Excel
spreadsheet to make it easy to find later. And you might as well add
in your domain name registrar and account login details to that
spreadsheet while you have it open.
