Google Sitemaps

Google has a new feature for those of you who are interested helping Google crawl your site for improved organic search results. By using the Sitemaps technology you can receive on-demand reports about what pages were spidered, when they were spidered and any spidering errors on your site.

All this magic happens as a result of you building an XML description of the pages you want crawled in your site. This is pretty simple - we built one for this site, ClickResults.net in about 5 minutes. It took another few hours for Google to verify it could read the site properly and for Google to read the XML page list. The XML description contains as a minimum the URLs of the pages in your site, and optionally can contain priority information (relative importance of pages in your site), last updated information, update frequency information and a few other optional topics as well.

I would be suprised if Sitemaps results in higher ranking of your pages...but you will be able to control what pages Google sees and doesn't see, and you will be able to tell when the last time Google visited and indexed your pages, plus affect how frequently Googlebot visits your site. Here is a link to Google Sitemaps.
